Checklist for classes with Zoom

1. Environment prepared for classes using Zoom at university
Equipment such as computers, cameras, and Wi-Fi will be rented out to teachers who teach in classrooms so that Zoom classes can be conducted at the university.

When you conduct classes by Zoom at TMU, you have to do some procedure in the classroom in advance.
We will lend you pocket Wi-Fi, so please come to the Academic Affairs Division in advance.
Also, when using a projector or microphone, please come to the Academic Affairs Division in the same way.
PCs are prepared in the designated classrooms in advance.
Before starting the lesson, you will need to connect your computer to Pocket Wi-Fi every time. After class, please return Pocket Wi-Fi to the Academic Affairs Division.

2.System requirement for using Zoom on your PC
(1)Supported OS
You can use zoom on Windows or MacOS (10.7 or later). It also supports Linux.

Mac:Safari5+、 Firefox、 Chrome

(3) Microphone / Web camera
The microphone and webcam can be the ones attached to the PC. Check if it is available.
If you can't get a webcam, you can also use your smartphone as a webcam.
You need to install the app on your smartphone and set it on your computer, but there are apps such as "EpocCam", "DroidCam", and "iVCam".

3. System requirement for using Zoom on a smartphone
If the OS is newer than Android 4.0x or newer than iOS 7.0, zoom can be used. In the case of smartphones, basically yon don't need to separately prepare a microphone or webcam.

If you want to use Zoom on your smartphone, you need to install an application called "ZOOM Cloud Meetings".
Search for "ZOOM" from the App Store for iPhone or Android Play Store and install it.

4. Network environment
Regarding the network environment, it seems that zoom can be used if it has a communication speed of 1.2 Mbps.

5. Data traffic
The amount of data communication varies depending on the type of Zoom lesson, but it seems that the 90-minute class (camera video + audio) will be about 300MB.
If a student takes 14 classes a week with Zoom, it will be 4.2GB (300MB x 14 classes), and 1 month (4 weeks) will be 16.8GB.

6. Other points to note when using Zoom
When you conduct a class with Zoom from home etc., please conduct a class in a quiet place.
It's a good idea to use "virtual backgrounds" to prevent the reflection of private objects.
